How Golden Thistle Memorials Came to Be

Created from love, loss and keeping memories close

Golden Thistle Memorials is a very personal business for me.

Over the years, I have had to say goodbye to two beloved German Shepherds. Both of my boys were incredibly loved, each with their own personality, character and little ways that made them them.

When I lost them, they eventually came home to me in a wooden casket.

I was grateful to have them home, but I remember looking at that casket and feeling that it couldn't possibly represent the dog I had loved. All that personality, all those years of companionship and all those memories had come home in a box that said nothing about who they had been.

I wanted something beside it that did.  Something with their photograph. Their name. Their character.  Something that, when I looked at it, didn't immediately remind me of losing them, but instead reminded me of them.

That feeling became the beginning of Golden Thistle Memorials - Something to keep close

Like many pet owners, I was also given paw prints after my boys were cremated.  Those little prints meant so much to me. They were uniquely theirs — a tiny part of the dogs whose paws had walked beside me for so many years.

I began thinking about how meaningful it would be to turn those prints into something that could be carried with you, rather than kept safely tucked away.  A necklace or another small piece of jewellery could hold that paw print and allow you to carry a little reminder of them wherever you go.

From there, the idea grew.

I wanted to create memorial keepsakes that weren't simply about loss. I wanted them to celebrate the personality, love and memories behind the name.

Every memory is personal.

I understand how precious the photographs, paw prints, names and little details entrusted to me are.  That's why I take great care and attention with every memorial I create.

Before a personalised design is completed, I send a proof or visual to the customer so they can see how their keepsake will look and make sure they are completely happy with it.

Because to me, it isn't simply another order.

It is someone's much-loved pet. Someone's family member. Someone they miss.  I want the finished piece to honour their memory in a way that feels right for the person receiving it.

I know that no keepsake can take away the pain of losing someone you love.  But I also know how much comfort it can bring to have something that reminds you not simply of the day you lost them, but of the life you shared with them.

If something I create can help someone through such a difficult time — even just a little — then Golden Thistle Memorials is doing exactly what I created it to do.

To remember the personality.
To remember the love.
To remember them.

Because every memory deserves to be kept close.
